Alcohol-related harm

Comprehensive datasets of the alcohol-related harm indicators are available below. These are available as Excel spreadsheets by district health board (DHB), territorial authority (TA), and area unit (AU). These datasets contain the data shown on Healthspace, as well as additional indicator variations and a wide range of groupings of years of data not shown on Healthspace (such as two-year, three-year, five-year, and ten-year groupings). Areas with large populations can obtain more detailed data, while areas with small populations can obtain a wider range of data that can be displayed on Healthspace in some cases.

Health status

The Health Status indicators include data from (i) the Ministry of Health’s New Zealand Health Survey regional data, and (ii) analyses of Ministry of Health National Collections datasets, carried out by the EHI team. New Zealand Health Survey data is available at the Ministry of Health’s website (see the NZHS regional data explorer).

Analyses of the Ministry of Health’s hospitalisations, cancer registrations and mortality dataset were produced for DHB Health Profiles, by the EHI team. The Health Profiles spreadsheets show the state of health in a District Health Board. The state of health in each area is compared over time and to the general state in New Zealand. Health profile data for each DHB, and related metadata, are available from the health profiles section of the EHI website. Excel spreadsheets for territorial authorities can be requested by emailing: ehinz@massey.ac.nz.
