The data sources are the Census Population data, the National Minimum Dataset (Hospital Inpatient Events), the Mortality Collection Data, and the New Zealand Cancer Registry Data.

Census time series data points are not of equal intervals due to the posponed 2011 Census to 2013.
Reporting variables
Results are presented for a range of health diseases or conditions in a District Health Board and for total New Zealand. The results are presented by sex, prioritised ethnic group (i.e. Māori, Pacific, Asian, and Other), and any combination of sex and prioritised ethnic group.
